Honest Comparison
YourNextMentor vs BetterHelp — which is right for you?
These solve different problems, and we'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. BetterHelp is licensed online therapy. YourNextMentor is a career and leadership mentorship marketplace — a mental-health category is on our roadmap, but it isn't live today, and we're not positioning as a therapy replacement.
If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact a crisis line (in the US: call or text 988) or emergency services immediately — not any mentorship or therapy marketplace, this one included.
Which one fits
Choose BetterHelp if…
- You need licensed clinical therapy — ongoing talk therapy, treatment for a diagnosable condition, or coordination with affiliated psychiatry.
- You want a recurring subscription and a therapist matched through their clinical intake process.
- You want asynchronous messaging with your provider between live sessions.
- You're currently in crisis — in which case, please contact a crisis line or emergency services first, before any marketplace.
Choose YourNextMentor if…
- What's actually weighing on you is career and workplace — a stalled promotion case, imposter syndrome blocking your next move, burnout tied to a role, not a clinical condition needing treatment.
- You want a non-clinical, experienced career mentor's perspective on a specific work situation, not a diagnosis.
- You'd rather pay per session with no subscription than commit to a recurring monthly charge.
- You're specifically working the Senior PM → Director track and want a mentor who's made that exact jump.

What we're honest about
BetterHelp is licensed clinical therapy at real scale — actual licensed therapists, real credentialing requirements, and, for many plans, insurance-adjacent options. We are not a therapy platform today, and we won't pretend otherwise to win a comparison. A wellbeing and mental-health category is genuinely on our roadmap, but until it ships, nothing here should be mistaken for clinical care, and we currently make no claim to have licensed therapists on the roster.
What we do have is a mentor bench that understands career and leadership context — including the wellbeing-adjacent language that shows up around a hard career stretch: burnout, overwhelm, imposter syndrome, feeling stuck. If what's driving the anxiety is a work situation — a promotion you can't crack, a manager relationship, a direction decision — a career mentor is often the more direct fix, and that's not BetterHelp's job. If your situation genuinely needs both, that's reasonable: clinical support from a licensed therapist for the clinical piece, career mentorship from us for the career piece.
Questions people ask
Is YourNextMentor a substitute for therapy?
No — not today. Our mentors are experienced career and leadership professionals, not licensed clinicians, and nothing on the platform should be treated as therapy, diagnosis, or medical advice. If you need clinical mental-health support, BetterHelp or a licensed provider in your area is the right choice. A mental-health category is on our roadmap; until it ships, treat YourNextMentor as career mentorship only.
My stress is coming from work — do I need a therapist or a career mentor?
It depends on what’s actually driving it. If it’s a diagnosable condition or you need ongoing clinical support, start with a licensed therapist. If it’s specifically a work situation — a stalled promotion case, a difficult manager relationship, burnout tied to role misalignment — a career mentor who’s made the exact Senior PM → Director jump can often help faster and more directly than general talk therapy addresses the workplace mechanics. Plenty of people reasonably use both, for different parts of the problem.
How does pricing compare?
BetterHelp runs a recurring weekly subscription, billed monthly — publicly reported pricing has commonly landed in the several-hundred-dollars-per-month range, though you should verify current pricing directly with them, as it changes. YourNextMentor charges per session: each mentor sets their own price for each session length, you see it on the profile and again at checkout, and there is no subscription, so you pay only for the sessions you book. Mentors can switch on a free intro call — the free-intro filter in search shows who has one on right now.
